I do believe in life, in its beauty and mystery!
I believe in the process of the inner work and in transforming whatever we can transform. If we do not believe in destiny we need to be an artist of life and build our own destiny and use the best means to accomplish it.
Let me share with you some of my personal story in building the quality of my own life:
I really took that on me that work when I was very young. I believe that a human being has a mission; to build a better life for humankind on earth. I knew about Chinese Culture when I was in my twenties, since then, I dedicated my all life to learn more about its mysteries. My first contact with Chinese Culture came through the I Ching, I read all the books that I could find about that topic, in French, English and Spanish. It was impossible to find anything in Portuguese at that time. It was the beginning of the seventies, when young people all over the world were looking for exotic alternatives to fulfill their longing for life. I was married to a scientist, we spend all our free time reading, and we spent all our money buying books and studying. As there was little material written about the I Ching, we filled that lack by studying western thinkers such as: Mircea Eliade, Rene Guenon, Jacques Bergier & Louis Powell, Timothy Leary, Carl Gustav Jung, Allan Watts, Heisenberg, Aldous Huxley, Herman Hesse and poet Fernando Pessoa. Later we knew the work of Gregory Bateson, Gaston de Bachelard and Roland Barthes. We found Greek philosophy very helpful in better understanding the essence of Chinese thought.
In 1992 I wrote my book about the I Ching. It was published in 1994. click to read the summary of this book. Since then I have dedicated my studies to the flow of Yin and Yang energy in my body. I directed my attention to Chinese Inner Alchemy and the process of opening the channels and of using the energy to improve health , wellness and longevity. I studied in Thailand with a Taoist instructor and was certified as an instructor.
It takes a long time to construct our own destiny and to be able to take the circumstance for our choices in life. Always keeping in mind that our free will does have a limit. There are many other forces that go beyond the bounds of men's will. We could call them natural forces such as: hurricanes, earthquakes, geographical limits, or the limits as proscribed by our culture, politics or origins. Therefore there are many powers known and unknown that cannot be discounted that go beyond the human will.

Yes destiny exists.The ancient sages state that destiny derives from the power of the Earth and Heaven, but they took into account another power, the human will. This means that our free will has its limits. One can transform many situations within the bounds that nature and the laws of change impose. Destiny can be described as the bounds that we cannot cross without harm to ourselves and the harmony of life. But even when one cannot transform a situation one can yet transform the reaction to it.
I consider that the ability to transform our reaction to external situations as the supreme conquest of our inner freedom. I cannot change a cloudy day but I can learn to like it. I cannot change the violence and the craziness of the modern world but I can learn how to protect myself from it and how not to be affected by it internally. Sometimes I cannot transform the hatred someone feels towards me but I certainly can transform the way I respond to it by not letting it become part of me by reacting with more hate. If there is something negative in me I can still learn how to love myself and accept it.
If I live with a negative person, no doubt I wouldn't be able to change them but I could make sure that I don't allow it to unbalance my own life. I can learn how to accept and to transcend the limits that life imposes on me by increasing and developing positive qualities.
I believe that in this way everything can be transformed and that nothing restrains my capacity for happiness. Believe me there are thousands of people in this world who are happy even though their circumstances are surely unhappy. Come with me and let's see how the ancient sages transcended and managed destiny.
