Westerners perceive time as chronological, physical and dimensional. Chinese philosophy interprets time as multidimensional, full of meaning. The concept of time is so vast that the situation expressed by a hexagram is considered to be temporal. This vast concept of time does not invalidate our chronological time but includes and transcends it. When we randomly select a hexagram that speaks about 3 years, 10 years, 8 months, we should not consider these as chronological time. The I Ching almost always is referring to a psychological time, a spring or winter of the soul. We must be attentive so as not to confuse ourselves with an interpretation. It is possible to determine exact chronological time with the I Ching, but the question must be specific and the calculations are quite complicated.
